Nong Khiaw Back Country Explorer

3 Days | Nong Khiaw Laos Village Immersion: Trek, Waterfall, Kayak & Local Life

Day 01 Naaluang, MuangNgoi & Jungle Trek (L, D)

We start with a quick ride to the trailhead, and then we start walking! We’ll stroll along paths and through a large stretch of rice paddies that are along the trail. Then, we’ll stop at an isolated village deep in the jungle. It’s a really well-preserved Laos-style village, and the folks there still live a pretty traditional life, mostly living off the land. You can chat with the friendly locals and learn about their culture and customs with the help of the guide. Your guide will tell you all about their daily lives and maybe you’ll discover different ethnic groups that live peacefully in the village, and learn about their traditions. After a while, we’ll continue on the jungle trail, crossing the mountain down to the Nam Ou River, towards Houihoy village. That’s where we will be spending the night.

Day 02 Muang Ngoi – Tad Mok Waterfall (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we’ll have a boat ride then trek to Tad Mok Waterfall. We’ll have plenty of time for swimming in a jungle pool before trekking back to the boat, then we’ll head upriver to see the history cave, an incredible viewpoint, and the town of MuangNgoi. After exploring, we’ll continue upriver to a tiny weaving village where we will spend our second night.
.

Day 03 Trek and Kayak to Nong Khiaw Town (B, L)

After breakfast, we’ll cross the river and start trekking on a trail that is the most beautiful around Nongkhiaw. The first part runs through small rice fields, then through bamboo forest and the jungle. You can swap some jungle survival stories with our local guide along the way – don’t hesitate to ask questions! We’ll finish up and reach the riverbank. There the boat will take you back down river to the beach then take the kayak back to Nongkhiaw during sun set.

Note: Be sure to bring good hiking shoes as the trails can be slippery with rain.  Trail conditions and hiking times can increase if there is rain.

This tour starts and ends in Nong Khiaw which is about 3 hours outside of Luang Prabang.  Transfer to and from Nong Khiaw can be included in this tour at an additional cost.  Ask us for details.
